Astronomy & Mathematics

After seeing my introduction, is it a suprise to you that I enjoy astronomy? Astronomy has been a long term interest of mine since my very early childhood, and it lead into a love of mathematics. I had my first telescope (a 3-inch refractor) by the time I was in 2nd grade, and have never lost interest since. Over the years I have gotten larger telescopes, taken numerous photos and logged many hours observing, and even studied it in college before changing majors. Unfortunately, living in the Columbus metropolitan area precludes any decent viewing, so I am currently doing research on the history of astronomy and mathematics leading up to the time of Galileo.

One of these days, I may see about getting a few of my images online, but so many of my pictures are not in a format made for scanning (most are in negative or slide format). For right now, I have photos of the Ring Nebula in Lyra, and the Horsehead Nebula in Orion which I have taken over the years. The technique that I used to produce these was to take (nearly) identical pictures over many nights of the same object, then combine those pictures together to mask out tracking errors, planes, and the alike, then produce the final picture from those.
